Reflections – 2012

From Don Parker, Festival Founder; Vice President, Board of Directors

It has been with great satisfaction that I have had the privilege to both participate and share in all eleven Amelia Island Book Festivals.

We started with the grandiose plan to turn Amelia Island into “the Book Island of America.” Maybe we haven’t quite done that, but Nassau County and Amelia Island and vicinity is aggressive about literacy, loves to read, and always greets our great authors with enthusiasm.

This year we brought in 37 authors. At least one author visited every school in Nassau County, and overall spoke with more than 5,000 of our children.

At the Writer's Workshops

Attendance was excellent at the Festival and our author guests have been lavish in their thank you’s.

The “team” works year round to plan and produce the Festival. It takes skill, dedication, and energy, which these wonderful people seem to produce abundantly.

Thank you, all. Also, thank you Nassau County for your love of books and your continued support of the Amelia Island Book Festival.

If you have a reflection or a story to share about the 2012 Amelia Island Book Festival, please send it to us at info@ameliaislandbookfestival.com.  We would love to hear from you.
